Why install a new garage door?
Garage doors are an ideal addition to all residential properties. It’s not only a matter of security and protecting your car, tools and other valuables, but also about the design and aesthetics of your property. A high-quality garage door is an investment that adds value and style to your home.
Whatever the weather…
Your Garage Master garage door will seal your garage space from rain, snow and the elements, as well as protect it from dirt, dust, and unwanted pests such as rats, squirrels or birds. A top-quality garage door can provide a dry and secure space for your home.
Low-maintenance
Our modern garage doors and automatic operators, supplied by top European manufacturers, are easy to maintain and designed to be resistant to rust, rot and corrosion.
Fitting comes with our standard 2-year guarantee and full manufacturer’s warranty.
Improved Technology
Modern garage doors are designed to be easy to open and close. An electronic opener (automatic operator) makes the job even easier.
Remote operation is usually via a key fob or wireless keypad, which is handy when you have your hands full or want to operate it from your car.
And just in case things go wrong, there is a manual back up.
Extra security features can also be added. Talk to us for advice on the best system, and the best technology, for your requirements.

Up and over
An up-and-over garage door lifts vertically but uses one of two different types of lifting gear – canopy or retractable.
Canopy lifting gear fits onto the frame only, and does not need tracks going back into the garage. This style is generally the less expensive option.
A ‘canopy’ garage door does not go all the way into the garage when opened, but leaves about a third of its length jutting out – hence the name.
Retractable lifting gear – also known as ‘slideaway’ – uses internal tracks to take the garage door almost entirely into the garage. Most up-and-over doors can be fitted with either type of gear, although double doors are only fitted with retractable systems.
The retractable style of lifting gear is ideal for use with automatic operators (also known as electric openers), as it allows the operator to pull the door back along its tracks into the garage. If you have a canopy door and would like an automatic operator fitted, a conversion is sometimes an option, rather than buying a new garage door.
Sectional Doors
Versatile and space-saving, sectional garage doors are one of the most popular designs. The doors are constructed from horizontal panels hinged together, and slide up and down using tracks on the garage ceiling.
Flexible and weather-resistant seals keep the wind and rain at bay, while the vertical lifting action permits vehicles to be parked close to the opening door.
With a choice of four surface finishes and three thicknesses of steel door, various styles, together with RAL colour options, your choice is vast.
Sectional doors are also available in timber and Glass Reinforced Polyester (GRP).
Roller doors
A roller garage door comprises interlocking slats, which, powered by an electric motor, roll up into a compact coil in a box above the garage opening. There are no tracks going back into the garage and this system does not intrude into overhead garage storage space. Roller doors are ideal for properties with limited garage ceiling space, offering excellent security.
Garage Master offers you a wide range of roller doors, which are fitted with an electric opener as standard. The built-in weather seal and insulation are designed to keep the contents of your garage safe, secure and dry. Roller doors are ideal for arched openings and short driveways. If your garage has low headroom, compact versions are also available.
Hörmann UK offers roller doors with a choice of nine standard colours, available at no extra cost.
Side-hinged
Garage Master can offer you traditional-style side-hinged doors, in steel, timber or GRP, which are ideal for garages in which various types of internal obstructions occur, such as gas or electric meters.
Water pipes, shelving etc. can sometimes make the fitting of other types of doors impractical, or side-hinged might be preferred where personnel access without the need to open the full door is a requirement.
Side-hinged doors are outward opening, making the best use of the internal garage space. Although they are supplied in pairs, the panel combination can be configured in accordance with your specific needs (for example centre-split or split off-centre) – subject to certain size and design limitations.
Contact Garage Master on 01202 666133 or info@garagemaster.co.uk to find out more about our side-hinged options.
Automatic Operators
Garage Master specialises in the installation of automatic garage door operators – also called electric openers – which open and close your garage door at the press of a button. These systems are extremely convenient, but the technology also adds greater security to your garage: it will only respond to a precisely programmed remote control device, and when closed, the door is securely locked shut.
Garage Master uses Marantec “Comfort” operators as standard. Over many years, these have proven to be extremely reliable for both up-and-over and sectional garage doors. They can also be fitted to most pre-existing or newly installed garage doors. If you would like to see a working demonstration of automated garage doors, please visit our showroom.
There are many benefits to this system including:
- An incredibly quiet Kevlar belt drive
- Convenient-sized remote controls
- Automatic reverse and stop, if impeded
- Internal garage light
- Manual release key system (if required)
- Stand-by setting to reduce power bills
- All luxury cars with an integrated transmitter can also be programmed to open a Marantec operator. If you would like a complete list of models with this feature please visit the HomeLink website.
Difficulties with transmitters and range
If you are having any difficulties with a 418MHz (or even 433MHz) operating system, this problem might be due to the new emergency services. TETRA radio system has been allocated bands from 410 to 430 MHz. This is a government-backed initiative, and such problems will only increase as more masts are erected and usage increases.
One solution is to ‘upgrade’ your current system to the recommended 868MHz, which has now been allocated for door and gate automation.
Steel Fabrications
Garage Master offers a range of steel doors. Galvanised steel garage doors are tough, long-lasting and popular, providing security at affordable prices.
Galvanised steel garage doors come with a polyester powder-coated paint finish, which is extremely durable. White is the standard finish, but other colours are available as optional extras.
Decograin doors are finished using a synthetic foil coating, giving up-and-over steel doors a timber effect design on the outside that is less expensive than GRP or timber.
